Back to Reality September

So, the truth is, the return to reality and back to school this month has been rough, guys! I hope it’s been a little smoother for all of you.

First, there’s adjusting to the school and activity schedules, the new teachers, and the children’s swirling emotions. And then, BOOM, we get hit with a travel soccer tournament right out of the gate on Labor Day weekend. No rest for the weary!

Then, my eldest daughter gets a cold, but luckily, that’s all it is. Then, we find out we all (minus the hubs) caught lice somewhere. NOT COOL. This adds 2+ hours of combing hair for at least four days, not to mention all the laundry, etc.

Also, I’m not complaining, but I’m playing for two tennis teams, so I’ve had a lot of matches. (Which I love and keeps Mama’s swirling emotions balanced, ha.)

Then my throat started to hurt, and I went to the doctor, but it was more of the same, viral crud. And I’m wearing a wrist compression sleeve because I’ve been gripping the tennis racquet too tight and taking a lot of Advil and icing.

The other obstacle that took up much of my time was when I returned from the beach and had nowhere to put my clothes. My closet had officially hit its max. So what’s a classic ADHDer to do? Tear everything out—clothes, hats, purses, shoes, etc.—pile it in mounds, wipe down bare surfaces, go through everything for donations, and reorganize it.

And y’all? I fully Marie Kondo’d that place. It is now so beautimous. There is even room to acquire more, but I’m applying that, bring something in, something must go out policy so that everything has room to breathe. Ahhh…

Oh, and my hubs acquired a new client, and since I currently handle his invoicing, I had to figure out how to onboard them.

But, Skye, you’re a romance writer? Where are the writing updates?

On August 29, I had a microcoaching call with Terry of Write Better Faster fame. I was complaining about my #2 Maximizer strength and how to “shut it off,” LOL, because nothing is ever good enough, and my first full novel will never be good enough. He pointed out that if my goal was to get it out there, I could draw up a contract with myself of what “ready to go” means and sign it saying that when those things are done, I will finally let the manuscript be free.

I adored this idea. I am not one to break a contract. I am an Upholder, and such a move would force my hand. I mean, until I procrastinate on executing the tasks in the contract because—SEE? All of the above? So much stuff in the way. I am totally justified.

But for real, though, the good news is I have a writing, well now, unfortunately, editing retreat planned for my lonesome to go down to my happy place in Kiawah next week for a few days, and CRANK THAT SHIT OUT.

So, fingers crossed, my next update will share what I’m working on next! And that my first MS is on submission.

In the meantime, the big news is that starting tomorrow, I’m participating in the annual Fall into a Book Giveaway. I mean, this event is huge and so much fun. If you’ve never participated in it before, please sign up to join the Facebook group Isn’t It Romantic Book Club so you can take part in all the fun. You get to meet authors, connect, and, in the process, maybe win some books and other fun things!

I hope to see you there and that you will comment on my posts! As always, thank you for your support and for helping my writing dreams come true.
